To mark U.S. Women's Equality Day, women from throughout Vermont announced the creation of She's for Symington, an organization that will support the candidacy of Gaye Symington for Governor. Women's Equality Day commemorates passage of the 19th Amendment to the constitution, which gave women full voting rights. The group will reach out to female voters in all regions of the state to educate them about Speaker Symington's agenda for change.
"Gaye has shown strong leadership as Speaker and the willingness to confront our state's toughest challenges regardless of political risk. Women across Vermont value the thoughtful, long-range solutions she has developed and her collaborative, non-partisan approach to lawmaking," said Nancy Richardson who is a lead organizer of She's for Symington.
"I'm grateful for the efforts of She's for Symington to reach out to women voters and help spread my message of change. All Vermonters, men and women, are anxious about our weak economy and the impact it is having on our families and communities. They are eager for a leader who will pull Vermonters together to tackle our problems and get results," said Symington.
"We need the new ideas and new vision for a better future that Gaye Symington and Barack Obama will bring. I believe She's for Symington will really help spread this message of change and ensure a victory for Gaye in November," said Judy Bevans.
